Hello, sorry if this post is not allowed as it’s more of a troubleshooting question.
I recently downloaded the Pairs dating app, but I had trouble verifying my account.
I need to take pictures of an official document, but my passport is not being accepted. I specifically don’t understand what they mean by “photo of the bearer information page.”
I was wondering if there are people that verified their account with a non-Japanese passport.
Also wondering how the apps is as a foreigner in Japan

Yeah there should be no issue I think.
The page should be the one with your name, birthdate, and photo.
Maybe you can try your residence card or my number instead ? You can always send a message to the customer support to they should be able to reply quickly.
A long time ago I tried using Pairs too.
Best of luck, but some things to consider:
• It’s very much a Japanese dating app. The women there are looking for serious relationships/marriage – something that many women don’t really think is possible with foreigners.
• If your Japanese isn’t moderate to advanced, you aren’t likely to find a partner.
• For fear of embarrassment, many women won’t post their actual pics. Imagine talking to someone for weeks/months only to finally meet in person and you’re not attracted to them (if that’s a necessity for you).
• Even the most average looking woman (hell, even a picture of a cake) will have 100s of likes. Imagine a person trying to filter through all those “matches.”
• Bot/fake accounts were a problem back then, not sure if it’s still a problem.
• Membership for men is very expensive.
i used it, but there’s too much notification, i got tired of it. interesting fact is, they can disclose income information there.
Can you use zairyu card instead? Most Japanese ID verification only supports JP passport.
To echo others here, Pairs is a very Japanese-centric dating app and the people there are looking for an actual relationship.
* Biggest dating app in Japan with a wide range of ages from 20~50
* With is another big one, but with lower age range, Tapple is even lower
* Number of likes are limited and refreshed every month, although you can buy them
* You need to be a paid member to send message (for men)
* Japanese is almost always a necessity
* Men outnumber women 6:4
* Like many other dating apps, for men the hurdle for average person is getting quantity, while for women it’s quality
I did Pairs for 6 months and met 3 people only, 2 of them didn’t work out well but I was regularly meeting a girl weekly for 2 months but gave it up because I found up she’s still heavily using the app. YMMV
Ask yourself this question. Do you want to pay 5000円 for the opportunity to text women for a month?
I just paid 3 weeks ago and got a ton of matches during my first 3 days (as it usually goes for dating apps). Out of all the matches I got (roughly 60-ish) half responded, 10 kept a conversation, and I met/had sex with one girl. That one girl I’m still talking to said “I don’t want to waste time, if you’re ok I’d like to get married next month”. I told her if she’s serious then she’d have to quit her job and move with me because I’m moving to [random far away prefecture] to which she suddenly changed to “let’s take it slow”.
I have casuals that I’ve met on bumble/other apps. Pairs to me is a waste of money and I’d steer clear unless you have money to burn, you’re fairly attractive, and want to get married soon.
If you can’t speak the language or you are a low income dude, stick with the gaijin hunter sites
