Game UI Portfolio, what is acceptable?

I’ve recently decided to look for a new job, at a new game development studio.

I have a few years of experience, but most of my work is tied to company property.

The game I have worked on is already out., as well as all of the stuff I worked on. Is it acceptable to show videos and images from the game’s structure, as well game footage in my online portfolio?

I intend to put it under a password so it’s not viewable to just anyone, as well as adding a declaimer regarding the copyrights. But is that enough?

Needless to say, I want to avoid asking for permission, as I don’t have a job lined up yet and don’t want them to know I’m leaving.

From my research online I saw some conflicting information about how this works in Japan, so I thought it’d be best to ask people who might have done it before.

  1. A bit related but friend of mine’s company does screen graphics for films, and he just links to movie trailers and posts some screenshots in the portfolio, I don’t think its that big of a deal if you actually did the work, anyone who wanted to see it by themselves can just play the game right? Don’t post internal images/textures/work in progress sketches etc, and it should be OK?
