I have a Suica card (since i travelled from Tokyo). I’ve been to Kyoto too, and so far Suica is accepted in there too (yes, I should have refunded it before I left Tokyo and gotten an Icoca). Although Toyama trams accepted my Suica, the bus don’t seem to. Is this right?
Asking coz I boarded a bus from the Toyama Station, and folks were getting tickets from the machine by the bus entrance door. I showed the bus captain my Suica and asked if they accept it. He showed me the purple IC tap receiver, and does not appear to have the usual “IC” nor does it show the logo of Suica or Icoca (it was dark, so I couldn’t make out the name of the purple logo on the receiver). So I understood it saying I needed a diff pass (i.e. colored purple one). I ran out of coins for Â¥210 fare, so I alighted and took the tram instead.
I tried googling but I could find a definite answer specifically about Toyama local buses and Suica IC card usage. I’m staying in Toyama for a few more days, so would really appreciate your help.
Thank you in advance for those who can enlighten me!

No, they support Ecomyca/passca only.
There are plans to incorporate existing systems into dual cards (with ICOCA), but these things take very, very long time (typically 6-7 years).
