hello there! I have been trying to find my grandmother for about 2 years now and have hit a dead end everywhere. through military stuff she ended up moving to USA but divorced and left back to Japan. I want to connect with her and get to know my family in Japan.
so where I have been led is to find her Koseki and through obtaining that I can apparently find her address or number. I am visiting Japan for my honeymoon this year and just know this is my time to find her. I was planning to bring my birth certificate and my fathers to show proof of relation to her. Is this enough? and if so, where do I go to show this to someone. like do they have a city hall. I tried to research it and it says they do.
My family is all from Okinawa and Kumejima so I will definitely be starting there. I really am just asking for any information about kosekis, obtaining one for someone else, and any info how to make contact. I learned to speak basic japanese and am practicing everyday so I can meet her. Please help if you can! thank you

This will get removed as you don’t live in Japan. You might try the weekly off topic thread in /r/JapanFinance, or you could try /r/japan.
Best suggestion I can give you is to reach out to your local Japanese consulate, especially if you have Japanese nationality yourself. Otherwise your best option will be to check the US Embassy in Japan and see if you can find a Japanese lawyer who can help you.
