Hey. Does anyone know if degrees obtained through the Open University (UK) are acceptable for a work visa? The OU is an accredited Uni, so the degrees are actual degrees, but I believe I’ve read that some countries don’t really accept them or are finnicky about them. Appreciate any help.

Hey, did my degree via OU (Australia). As long as you have the degree conferred before you leave, that’s fine – but if you’re in your last year and set to graduate you’ll need a Letter of Graduation in your application form. I’d suggest getting that LoG through the main university you do your subjects with.
UK Shortlisted this year and I only have a degree through the Open University 🙂
But also for further reassurance, if you look at the JET UK website, FAQ > Eligibility section, it gives you an answer to your question:
“The JET Programme accepts any type of Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university (including The Open University).”
Should be fine. I know teachers who did their undergrad at the OU.
I’m also shortlisted this year and am graduating from the OU:) It was a bit of a pain asking for the reference but as long as you make it clear you will not be teaching in the UK and don’t need a PGCE then it will be fine!
