Hi all,
Like many of us, I’ve been using Nihongo Con Teppei for Beginners as my main source of input for a little while and since I now understand it pretty well, I decided to upgrade to Nihongo Con Teppei Z / Original.
However, I find it very challenging – as the pace is much faster, I really struggle to keep up and as the episodes are longer, I often end up switching off. Obviously repeating the same episode helps although there is still quite a lot I don’t understand and I find the process very challenging.
As anyone found that transition difficult too? And if so, how did you overcome the frustration of suddenly not understanding much?
Thank you!

yeah it’s hard for me too I think with his basic one you can just turn it on and he goes so slow, you can just listen and get most of it on the first go
when he talks with noriko or on some of the other more advanced ones, it’s like you have to back up more, use the dictionary more
IDK how to approach this other than to increase my vocabulary I hope someone has another idea. I’m convinced a lot of Japanese is actually having a big vocabulary (yes of course you need some grammar but it seems smaller in compared to vocab). Please prove me wrong though I’d like to hear someone’s alternative idea.
It’s my first time hearing about this resource. Thanks for sharing!

Teppei-specific
On a quick google search, he has a [YouTube](https://youtube.com/@nihongoconteppei) channel.
Here’s what you can do:
* Subtitles: Turn on closed caption by clicking the CC button. Listen with Japanese subtitles.
* Transcript: If you are not yet accustomed to reading Japanese subtitles with Kanji, click “Show transcript” button in the “…” menu right next to Share, Download, and Thanks. Copy and paste the raw contents to a page and use various tools to add Furigana/translate/etc. It looks like he uses a good microphone so the automatically generated subtitles is somewhat accurate (Less stuff gets picked up when he’s not alone though)
General principle:
Chezni19 is right on the importance of having a big vocabulary and it’s the first thing popping in my head as well.

Hope this helps. Thanks!
