Can you help me clear up the meaning of 損ねる?
I thought it means “to harm; to hurt; to injure; to wreck” (from Jisho)
But my tutor said that is not so accurate. He said it really means “to lose” and is used like 機嫌を損ねる which for instance is like if you offend someone. He said I can’t use it like 試合を損ねる, though, it’s not lose like that.
What’s the significance of 先 in the sentence:
ホームステイ先のお姉さんが、ショーン・スミスに英語を見てくれるように頼んでいる。
通りかかったら、メタル坊主がどうとかって話し声が聞こえてきてな。
Could I please get some help in understanding どうとかって I’m thinking its kind of vaguely resembles the english expression “I swore I could of heard”
“I was passing by and I swore I could of heard a monks voice”
