Anyone have a good way to remember the different version of 自動詞 and 他動詞？

So I think I get the jist of the 自動詞 and 他動詞 but I always get the verbs mixed up between them e.g. つける　vs. つく.

There doesn’t seem to be a very structure to tell them apart. I though they would turn to like え form for 他動詞 but then you get something like 抜く　抜ける

Any ideas how to not get them mixed up all the time or shall I just keep powering through 😅
