Android – how to look up words by highlighting

I recently upgraded from an old iPhone to an Android (Samsung Galaxy S20).
On iPhone, I used various read later apps (Instapaper, Pocket), where I could highlight any word and look it up using the installed dictionaries without leaving the app.
I’m having a tough time finding the same option on Android.
Does this exist?

  1. Multiple… I use an OCR (so I can look up on pictures as well). It’s not consistent but I use “Kaku”

  2. I’m not too knowledgeable on this topic but that depends on application support. Another option is to use OCR software like Kaku (just bear in mind it can be resource intensive as OCR software constantly analyzes what’s shown on-screen).

For webpages, You can install Kiwi Browser and set up the pop-up dictionary extension Yomichan.

  3. By accident I noticed that “Simple Japanese News Reader” added an in-context search button to my phone, so I’m sure many are available

Try installing a bunch of different dictionaries that have high reviews

  4. I’m not aware of read later apps, but I typically screenshot and then use either the DeepL or Google Translate app to translate with OCR. You can also use the Yomiwa app to paste text in and get furigana over all the kanji, if you just need a pronounciation guide.
