  1. Does that mean that the next time someone tells me that my Japanese is good, alludes to my height (even though I’m not exceptionally tall), or praises my chopstick skills, I have to pretend to be devastated and seek therapy?

  2. Japan has a boatload of its own problems but good golly if we aren’t gunna make new one if we try to import being-woke. As an American: keep that shit in America!

  3. Jesus Christ. No that crap needs to get shut down from the bud. Probably the worst thing America exports

  4. My issue with the word microaggeessions is that aggression implies they know what they’re doing. Japanese people are just ignorant of the outside world, and 5 minutes of chatting really opens their eyes. Is it annoying to educate the whole fucking country? Yes, yes it is, but they’re not coming from a place of hate.

  5. Sounds good. This stuff isn’t hard to learn and conceptualise and super minor alterations in one’s behaviour can have a big impact on improving others lives.

For you it might just be one black guy in the year whose hair you are desperate to touch. For him it’s four times every fucking day.

  6. When did the term “unconscious bias” become “microagression” ? It’s been used for at least the last 70 years.

Maybe I’m missing something the distinguishes the two terms.

  7. The salty little bitch brigade is projecting their pain again. This is just so pretentious. We need to stop giving this shit any attention. There are bigger issues the a not being addressed rn.

  8. The topic of microagressions was really interesting to me when it started coming up in the States ten years ago. I recognized a lot of the Japanese behavior in the topic, I.e. being told about my amazing chopstick skills.

The major difference was I was raised as part of the majority in my home country before ever coming to Japan, so I don’t suffer any internalized racism.

When microagressions happen in the West, the people suffering them often have had to overcome self-image issues from being in the minority.

That might happen in Japan for Korean-Japanese, but I recognize that micro aggressions are merely a nuisance for me, and not something to be outraged over

  9. No the Japanese society isn’t grappling with made up bullshit. That’s a made up word.

  10. I went to buy a phone once and they only talked to my guy friend and basically wasted my time for 30 minute’s to let me just buy it
