Itinerary check: 28 days Feb. – March

I will be going to Japan for the first time, here is my itinerary:

(Note: The things I want to do/see are in no particular order, I also will check out whatever happens to be on the route between them)

**Tokyo [7 nights]**

Arrival to Tokyo -> Jetlagging and getting accustomed to local climate

Senso-Ji / Asakusa

Ueno Park

Shibuya

Shinjuku

Getting lost

A relaxed day for rest and maintenance at some point

**Kyoto [4 nights]**

Fushimi Inari Taisha

Kinkaku-Ji

Jonan-gu (Plum blossoms)

Kiyomizu-dera

Suntory Yamazaki Museum

Arashiyama

**Nara** day-trip

Shuni-e Festival at some evening

**Osaka [6 nights]**

FOOD

Dotombori

Osaka Castle

Shinsaibashi

Whatever comes by

A maintenance and rest day with Sauna

**Kobe [2 nights]**

Right when I arrive I will have a relaxed afternoon, maybe see some things near hostel, maybe Chinatown

Takenaka Carpentry Tools Museum

Herb Garden etc.

Kitano Ijinkan-gai

Climb the mountain? Don’t know how long it takes.

*Activate JR 7 day pass*

**Himeji [1 night]**

I will leave quite early for Himeji so I can check the castle during the day and get to sleep early

**Hiroshima [2 nights]**

Early arrival

Hiroshima Peace Memorial

Fooood

Miyajima

**Beppu (+ Yufuin?) [3 nights]**

I will try leave Hiroshima asap

Onsens and Hells (yeaaah)

Now here I am not 100% sure how to proceed! I want to visit Yufuin.

Would it be better to have 1 night in Beppu, then go to Yufuin for 1 night, and then come back to Beppu for 1 more night? Or should I first go to Yufuin for 1 night, and THEN go to Beppu for 2 nights? What do you think? Or just do a day trip to Yufuin?

**Tokyo [2 nights]**

Back to Tokyo from Beppu in one go

Last purchases for souvenirs etc.

Getting my ass ready for the flight back home.

For transit between Kyoto, Osaka, Nara and Kobe, I will use the Limited Express trains or whatever happens to be the better available and cheaper option.

In Tokyo I will get a Suica card and a sim.

My accomodations are mainly guesthouses, hostels and capsule hotels. I still might reserve a night here and there for a single room.

Happily one-and-half bagging with Osprey Farpoint 40 + Savotta Hatka (12L daypack).

What do you think?

  1. I think it’s a little long in Osaka. I would actually go to Fukuoka as well if I had 28 days. You could easily cut down 2-3 days from Osaka and add Fukuoka to your itinerary. Or you could add a Hakone/Takayama/Shirakawa one nighter as well in there
