What’s the average cost of dentist visits?

Sorry I haven’t been to a dentist yet to know, however I recently got a small chip in my front tooth, so I believe it’s time. How much do you usually pay when you get cavities done, or root canals? Also does the 70/30 health insurance cover dental? I’m employed. Thank you 🙂

  1. Yes it covers dental

First visit might cost a bit more as they do x-rays and get your info down.

Cleanings are around 1000-1500 in my exp

A few cavities around 2000, did about 3 per session i think

Chip in tooth depending on what they do and the filling, but when i chipped mine real bad it was about 4000.

  2. I had a stubborn wisdom tooth removed and it cost me 1300 yen.

The receptionist was very apologetic because “it cost more than usual, to it being a difficult case”!

But remember, SOCIALIZED MEDICINE BAAAAAAAAAAD! IT’S COMMUNISM!

  3. Very cheap, root canal probably came out to way less than 10,000 yen. If they don’t ‘do anything’ other than use tools and examine, it’s like 250 yen for their time.

  4. I have found that the cost per visit is very low. As others say 1300-1500Â¥ is kind of normal range.
If there are fillings, this may be slightly different.
In case of root canal, process is also very cheap.
Cap is covered and subsidized by insurance very well.

If you want Gold cap or Ceramic white cap, these are very expensive. I recall ceramic cap quote was about 100,000Â¥ a few years ago. I got the standard silver colored and it was about 5000Â¥.

One thing is that my dentist doesn’t like to do too much at one time. Therefore cost/visit is cheap, but the total time for a cavity may be 3-4 visits and end up 5-6k¥ overall.
I guess it depends on the dentist and how much work you need done.

  5. I recently had two appointments for fillings to be replaced. One filling per visit -2040Â¥ each visit. Replaced with plastic resin. Better than amalgam, worse than ceramic

  6. I pay 2900yen for 30 mins cleaning.
Involves gum check, cleaning of plaque, scaling, polishing, and final check by dentist for any suspicious cavities

  7. Mine are usually 700-900Â¥, above 1000 if it involves cleaning. Expect to go several times though, so it adds up quickly.
