Hi all,
As I’m sure a few of you are aware lots of the major train lines are showing as being cancelled due to heavy snow.
We are supposed to be travelling to Kanazawa today from Kyoto, however it appears the Thunderbird Express has been canned for the day.
Does anyone know of any alternate routes to Kanazawa?

If the Thunderbird is canceled you’re not getting to Kanazawa because it means buses and cars are unlikely to get through and the same with flights.
You can check: Hokutetsu and Nishinihon JR Bus. They are not covered by the rail pass or look to see if there are flights to Komatsu, but I expect the answer is no.
I would contact your hotel and let them know, I expect if trains are down, then people there are not going anywhere and they might want the rooms.
In a word: it’s not looking good, as in “you may have to change your plans” level of not looking good.
There were warning for days that the snowfall may impact transportation, and well, it seems that the snowpocalypse hit.
Anyway, if you really have to travel to Kanazawa (where a lot of snow is falling), you can attempt to go to Tokyo and then go by Shinkansen to Kanazawa. The Hokuriku shinkansen is delayed but seems to be still running.
