  1. If it’s an option you should absolutely visit before committing a significant amount of time and money to immigrating.

  2. You got over your crippling fear of natural disasters ? Good. After about a year or two, wherever you live stops feeling special and just becomes your ordinary life. If you visit Japan for a short time you’ll only want to live here more.

Good news is, you’re not some kind of medieval serf that will be forced to live here forever if you move, you can always go home. In fact, there’s a lot of people in Japan that hate it here but think leaving is “ giving up” like your life is some kind of competition. You don’t like it, you can always leave.

  3. I’m 32 and I’m moving to Japan for a new job this August. My only regret is that I didn’t do this sooner. I think 20 years old is a great age to up and move your life somewhere. As long as you feel like you’re up for the challenge. There are a lot of stressful situations you’ll be thrown into. Just make sure you’ll be able to handle it.

I honestly feel like you don’t really need to test the waters before moving there. There are so many youtube videos and websites out there about how different life in Japan is that will prepare you for life there. Just do a lot of research about it and understand the culture you’ll be throwing yourself into.

My last lil tid bit is make sure that moving to Japan is even an option. I’m not sure where you live, but look at different visa options. In the USA, we don’t have a working holiday visa, so I had to get hired by a job that was willing to get me a work visa. You’ll most likely be looking at English teaching jobs. Probably 90% of them require you to have a bachelor’s degree in order for them to hire you. If you want a long list of different companies that hire foreigners to teach English let me know. You can also apply to colleges there and get a student visa.

** You also mentioned you don’t have money. To move to Japan you really need at least 3,000 USD to get into your apartment, buy new things, and sustain yourself until you start getting paid from a job.
