How I currently read Japanese on my Google Pixel phone

Curious what other people have found & are using, & whether a similar experience is available on IPhone (or even non-pixel android phones). I’m kind of blown away at how good assisted-reading has gotten, but at the same time I’m using tools that weren’t made for this purpose, so I’m not sure any of it could have university courses designed around the tech at the moment, which is a shame.

I’ve come up with two methods, & made youtube videos to demonstrate.

Method 1: Reading books bought through “Honto” on an android phone, taking a screen shot of each page, sharing to google-lens, switch to “text” mode (which does flawless OCR), then selecting, copying, & clicking on the “google translate” “tap to translate” floating icon. Sounds like a lot but it’s about 2 seconds / page + 1-2 seconds per lookup.

Method 2: Basically the same thing for non-DRM books, using google play. On the plus-side, you don’t have to take screen-shots of every page & use google-lens. On the minus-side, furigana doesn’t work as well, obviously it’s hard to find things to read w/o DMR, & (I assume) text in images aren’t recognized.
