How recommended are air purifiers for life in Japan?

Hello! I am currently in the process of preparing to study abroad to Japan for 4 months during the summer (going to Yamanashi Prefecture), and on the list of items I can rent for my dorm (single-occupancy), one of them, is an air-purifier/humidifier. Since it costs 12,000ï¿¥, I want to know how recommended they actually are for spending an extended period of time in Japan.

If it means anything, I do not have any major allergies to pollen or other air pollutants.

Thank you

  1. In the winter parts of Japan (probably including Yamanashi) get extremely dry. So a humidifier is good for your lungs and skin.

The rest of the year it’s less of an issue.

Pollen is a huge problem in Japan in spring and summer. The air purifier will certainly help but if you’ve got any sort of sensitivity it probably won’t be enough.

I personally like having the white noise of an air purifier running when I sleep. I’d get one for that reason alone.
