Itinerary check: Tokyo, Nagoya, Kumamoto/Fukuoka/Yufuin, Kyoto (May 29 – June 20)

Hi,

My friends and I are going to Japan in a few months. We’re going to buy a JR Pass for 21 days. Anything we should know about our itinerary?

**Day 1 (May 29): Tokyo**

* Arrival in Tokyo and relaxing

**Day 2 – Day 7 (May 30 – June 4): Tokyo**

* Visit Tokyo

**Day 8 (June 5): Tokyo – Kamakura – Yokohama – Tokyo**

* Trip to Kamakura (from Tokyo) – morning and afternoon
* Yokohama in the afternoon/evening
* We return to our hotel in Tokyo in the late evening

**Day 9 (June 6): Tokyo – Nagoya – Gifu – Nagoya**

* Tokyo – Nagoya with the JR Pass
* Check-in to our hotel in Nagoya (and if we have time, we walk a bit to visit the neighborhood)
* Nagoya-Gifu for Ukai – Cormorant Fishing
* We come back to Nagoya in our hotel

**Day 10 (June 7): Nakasendo Way**

* Hike the Nakasendo Way
* Return to Nagoya for the night

**Day 11 (June 8): Nagoya – Kumamoto**

* Nagoya – Kumamoto (4-5h with the JR Pass according to Google Maps)
* Relaxing

**Day 12 (June 9): Kumamoto – Takachiho Gorge (day trip) – Kumamoto**

* We leave Kumamoto early in the morning to go to Takachiho (with Nobeoka Eki)
* Visit the Takachiho Gorge (and its surroundings if we have time)
* We go back to Kumamoto for the night

**Day 13 (June 10): Kumamoto – Fukuoka**

* Kumamoto – Fukuoka (1h with the JR Pass)
* We would like to go to the beach that day (Keya Beach, Itoshima beach, etc.) but we’re not sure if it is going to be possible before or after the check-in for the hotel in the afternoon…

**Day 14 (June 11): Fukuoka – Yufuin**

* Visiting the flowers field in Nokonoshima Island Park in the morning
* Fukuoka – Yufuin in the afternoon with the Yufu 2 Limited Express (covered by the JR Pass apparently)
* Relaxing in the onsen

**Day 15 (June 12): Yufuin-Kyoto**

* Yufuin-Kyoto (2h for Yufuin-Fukuoka + 3h for Fukuoka-Kyoto)
* Relaxing or visiting the neighborhood depending on our energy after 5h of train

**Day 16 – Day 21 (June 13 – June 18): Kyoto/Osaka**

* We sleep in Kyoto, but with the JR Pass, we found that it will be easy to do day trips to Osaka from Kyoto

**Day 22 (June 19): Kyoto-Tokyo**

* Kyoto – Tokyo (3h with the JR Pass)
* Visiting Tokyo for the last time

**Day 23 (June 20): Bye Japan!**

* We will need to go to Narita early, so we’ll probably only have time to eat breakfast and check out before leaving

We know that June is a rainy month. We planned other activities if it rains during an outside-activity day. Is our itinerary realistic? I know that from day 9 to day 15, we’re going to move a lot, but we can always take the time to relax if we find out it is too much. Also, is day 12 feasible? And for day 13, any beach to recommend? If we swim, is there a way to take a shower and change our clothes before taking the train/bus to the hotel? If you have any recommendations, please tell us!

Also, is there going to be any festival on these dates+cities?

Thank you a lot!
