Hey so I have this green round outlet in the wall that I wanna use. I know it’s for tv and I’d really love to get some Japanese tv in my house. ( apparently it’s included with my dormitory whatever)
Now I do not own a tv though. What I do own is a screen which isn’t meant to be a tv. But I do remember that back in the day in Germany we used to have these things called receivers. Before remotes came with the tvs you had this extra little box that the tv cable went into and the equivalent of an hdmi cable coming out of it.
Are these things still around? I tried looking on Amazon but nothing came up when searching for tv receivers. Anyone know if those things are still available and what their Japanese name is?

You want something from here: https://kakaku.com/kaden/digital-tv-tuner/
In particular, the ones which support 地上デジタル
Unfortunately, due to components shortage, it looks like cheapest one is … 17,000 yen
https://kakaku.com/specsearch/2047/ (check the 地上デジタル box and click search).
You might be able to hit up hard off or similar 2nd hand shop and grab something used, or get it from mercari etc.
edit: the name you’re looking for is 地デジタルチューナー
