Shopping in Japan: cosmetics and drug stores

Since the re-opening of travel to Japan, we have been inundated with posts regarding shopping for specific items in Japan. While /r/Japantravel’s rules specifically forbid posting new threads on individual establishments or services – we have decided to create specific threads for most common questions appearing in posts that got removed, discussion threads or Discord, especially since many of the write-ups that were posted befored COVID-19 hit were no longer up to date.

Today’s topic is: **Shopping for cosmetics and drug stores.**

Feel free to talk about where to buy cosmetics, medicine, or just about your favourite chains/stores.

*(This post is part of a discussion series set up by the moderators of /r/JapanTravel. Please note that general discussions/vague questions are not usually allowed per /r/JapanTravel’s rules, and threads in the similar style will be removed.*

  1. You can’t really go wrong with any chain, they all carry an extremely similar lineup. But do not sleep on Matsumoto Kiyoshi and their private label matsukiyo and w/m lines. If you’re here and you need a lotion, a hair spray, a body wash – they’ve got you, and for decent prices. Try it out.
For cosmetics, [nailTAT](https://www.nailtat.com/) is a vortex of all my spending money. Some locations require a domestic beautician license, most do not. They have some nice lines of regular polish, but a big focus on gels and poly/acrylics/all the razzle dazzle, brushes, tools, and machines. Their private label T-gel is no joke, either. That no wipe top coat is like glass! If you follow any nail artists in Japan, they definitely are using brands that nailTAT stocks, and maybe even have their own collabs with them.

  2. Currently in Kyoto! Does anyone know the best place to find a wide selection of Paul & Joe? Could also be in Tokyo as I will be there soon.

Im specifically looking for the cat shaped lipstick holder, not the paper ones they have but they used to have an actual tube shaped as their cat! TIA!

  3. Anywhere to buy good shampoo/conditioner and other hair products for women? Looking for some salon brands like Milbon
