Getting a hard copy of My Number Card

When I moved first to Japan some years ago, I got my Kojin Bango when I registered myself in Osaka but back then I think the hard copy of the card wasn’t a thing.

Now that I am back here, when I registered myself in Tokyo my number is still the same as the initial one but I don’t know how to start the process to issue a hard copy of the My Number Card.

There are [several](https://www.kojinbango-card.go.jp/en-tsuchicard/) terms on the official site but most of them look for people who are starting from zero. I know my last alternative will be spending a whole morning in the city hall, which is not very appealing. Any advice?

  1. Mine started having a section dedicated to my number because they’re really pushing and people need help. I think City hall should be your first stop not your alternative.

  2. go to the city hall, and they should be able to help you.

If you got an application slip (like a paper card with your My Number), bring that.

  3. I had a plastic card My Number card in 2016, so it has been around before that. It has the same expiration as your Zairyu card. I just got my new plastic card last month. You just need to go down to city hall to get it.

  4. If you have a notice paper with the QR code you can apply using your phone or there are photo booths that you can use too. You can apply at AU or Softbank at the moment too, apparently you don’t even need to have any paperwork with you.

  5. I use the notification paper I get while in osaka (the paper with mynumber printed on it), and use it to apply online after I live in tokyo. Received in about 2 months after I applied.

If you still have the mail, you should be able to apply it online using the instructions there. It also contains another series of numbers you can use for online applications.
