Not saying that this is the case here but I have heard of families in Japan where grandma/grandpa had some gold bars that they mysteriously came across in the 1930’s.
Their descendants didn’t even want to inherit the bars when the owner passed away because they were very suspicious of the origin if you know what I mean. So the bars were eventually given away to charity.
