I only recently read the name “Ahmya” in a story with Japanese setting and was confused since it doesn’t look Japanese at all. “Amia” okay, but “Ahmya”?
Today I encounted the name again in some random “beautiful Japanese name” youtube video, so I googled. And I know all those websites with names and their meanings aren’t the most accurate, but I found so many pages that told me that Ahmya is apparently a traditional Japanese name and means black rain.
And I’m just wondering… how? Is this actually a Japanese name or did one site simply copy wrong information from another and it started spreading?
Sorry if this is kinda trivial, but I saw the name two times in two weeks and now I’m just really curious.

I mean there’s time when people spell touru as tohru.
Almost all videos of this variety are untrustworthy and unreliable. What story did you first read it in, though?
(It certainly doesn’t mean black rain. It sounds vaguely like ame, which just means rain, but that’s it.)
That’s not a real Japanese name, and seeing as you posted it in romaji instead of kana or kanji means the story you read was not written in Japanese and therefore not made by a Japanese person.
雨夜(あまや Amaya) is a real name.
