Hello!
I’ve recently bought a pre-construction mansion and I’ve been thinking about what type of options I should choose. For example, I’ve chosen to get some down lights for extra lighting to make the place look brighter, accented wall, boards (studs?) behind walls to mount things, etc.
There are options to install cabinets in the kitchen and bathroom but they seem overpriced for what it is… the real estate agent also recommended installing our own cabinets from IKEA or another company to save money.
Did anyone buy a pre construction mansion and added options that they love or regret? Would love to get some opinions from other homeowners!
Thank you!!

I’d see if they can get you a solidly built-in pullup bar. Even if you don’t do full pullups, just hanging for a little bit everyday is fantastic for your health, back and shoulders. Also grip strength & dexterity that most old people lose fast.
Plus, never hurts to have extra hanging space on laundry days.
Also might be too late, but, I hope you’re getting a bathtub where you can actually stretch out your legs. I know I would regret it if I didn’t.
Down lights are not the way to go anyway. Accent your space with lamps running warm temperature bulbs. Down lights just make everyone look like Emperor Palpatine.
More outlets.
No, no. more than that.
Once you finally think you have enough, double it.
And then maybe throw in another one for good measure.
Big conduits for any kind of cable you may need in the future. Don’t just ask for network cables, ask for big conduits.
2 toilets ,1 bathroom
Make sure there’s enough space for a full size front loading washer/dryer.
Hello, 4LDK mansion owner here. Bought 6 years ago. Adjustable down lights (turn a knob to adjust intensity) in the living and kitchen areas for sure. Accent lighting can be bought later. We have a baby grand piano so we also reinforced the flooring area where we planned to place it. I would also recommend building the kitchen and bath countertops to a higher waist level or you may regret it especially if you’re tall. This is usually free of charge. Don’t buy their cabinet options. They’re way overpriced and it’s a waste since most people do a “reform” after 10 or so years anyway. I’m thinking of doing one in about 5 years to change the layout and get “a new home”. Cheers and good luck!
