Trip Report (Itinerary Part 3): Jan 27 – Feb 15, 2023 – Tokyo – WonFes & Disney

**Feb 10**
Visited Small Worlds Tokyo. This was a new miniature museum that opened in Tokyo near the end of 2020. They are sponsored by KIX and JAL so you’ll see lots of references to them within the museum. They had an exhibit on space (so you could see mini rockets launch), the KIX airport (watch the planes take off and land, with sound and everything). They also added in a new Evangelion area due to the new movie. It was a great place to spend some time in and they have an open area that looks into the workshop so you can see the people working on creating new sets and what all goes into the creation and design.

We actually ended up going back to Akiba to do some anime related shopping as we weren’t able to locate some items in other cities etc.

I took myself on a self-care day and got a hair treatment in Ginza. I had recently colored my hair so i got a moisturizing treatment and it was interesting to see the difference in salons (compared to Canada). Usually the same stylist does the treatment, washing, drying and styling. In Japan, they actually have 1 or 2 main stylists and then a bunch of helpers. This way they’re able to work on multiple clients at once.

This was the day for WonFes. We learned that the timing on the tickets are impeccable. We were labelled as Group N and expected entry at 11. We actually got to bag check at 10:59AM and was in the building minutes after 11. We got to see lots of garage kits (and I actually walked away with a Raiden Shogun kit which was unexpected) and all the prototypes / designs for upcoming figures. If you’d like more information on WonFes ticketing etc, please message me and I’ll be happy to provide more information.

My husband had a meeting in the morning, so I was able to wander on my own for a bit. I was able to visit a famous fertilty shrine (Suitengu) and it was pretty interesting that the shrine is enclosed within a business like building. I was able to pick up a couple safe delivery amulets for friends that are expecting their child this year as a souvenir.

Once I met up with my husband, we completed our anime figure shopping and ended up heading back to Nakano to pick up the art frame piece we saw at the beginning.

Valentines in DisneySea! This was actually a relatively last minute additional to our itinerary. But it did let me see the changes that DisneySea put in place post Covid.

The Fast Pass system no longer exists. You can download the Disney Resort app and purchase Disney Premier access (pay to skip line, and even then you’ll get a timed entry). Wait times varied between 50-120 minutes. Less popular rides (Sinbad Storybook) stayed around the 5-15 minute mark. Indiana Jones and Raging Spirits sat at 45 minutes. Tower of Terror and Toy Story ranged between 70-90 minutes. Soaring Skys, which is the newest attraction, stayed at over 120 minutes from the park opening onwards.

There is the option for “Standby” pass, but these passes only open if the line up closes and they don’t to give away Disney Premier access passes. These passes never opened for any of the rides / attractions during our visit.

We left early-ish so that we could get home and try and tetris everything into two suitcases and an extra shipping box that we purchased.
