Hello! I’m looking to travel from Tokyo to Shimoda via the saphir odoriko.
I read that the green compartment fare will be discounted from 98000 yen to 58000 yen if you have a JR Tokyo or JR EAST pass.
I will be having the 7 days JR pass so I was wondering if this would work the same way? If it does, how should I go about reserving the ticket?
Do I:
1. visit the JR EAST website
2. select the saphir odoriko ticket
3. choose option to “purchase the super limited express train ticket only” (58000 yen)
3. present both my JR pass and the receipt to a JR EAST office (I will be staying in shibuya/ shinjuku) the day before
4. collect my ticket to board the train
Thank you so much for reading my oddly specific question! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I would guess that what you have to pay is only the green car surcharge, not the full reserved ticket. But sure, if you book the reserved seat ticket, you can use the JR pass for base fare.
You would not have to show anything when you pick up the ticket.
When you ride the train, just use the pass to get in the station, use the reserved seat ticket in the train. Then when you exit you will have to go to the manned gate to pay for the base fare of the Ito to Izukyu Shimoda station as the train is running on a non-JR line.
What I would do is either try to book it via the JR pass reservation system if you buy direct from them or wait to have your physical pass in hand and go to the ticket office to sort it out and possibly pay less.
It is a minor mistake, but it is “odoriko”, not “oridoko”. It is named after the novel [Izu no Odoriko](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dancing_Girl_of_Izu)(The Dancing Girl of Izu) written by [Yasunari Kawabata](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yasunari_Kawabata).
