So I’m nothing right now, havent even really got past kana. But I’m working at it.
To get an estimate to where I want to be (and I know it’s different for ever person but I just want a rough estimate). How long would it take a person to comfortably read the “legend of the galactic heroes” novels in Japanese without looking anything up and understanding everything with about…2 hours of study every day.

About 6 years – roughly 2hrs x 365 x 6 = 4380 hrs. N1 proficiency is expected to be between 3000-4000 hrs but those books are beyond N1. The novels cover roughly 700k words with 25443 unique words. It is tough, but not the most difficult series by far.
