[Question] Nihongo no mori course students, how do you study vocab? 日本語の森

Hi everyone!

I bought the nihongo no mori course in January, but up until today, I’ve yet to figure out a good way to study vocab with them. All the other sections are really good and I’ve been using the textbooks provided as well. But I’ve noticed that there is A LOT of vocab to learn in the 「文字・語彙」section in the textbook and on their videos they only cover the practice question vocab.

Can someone who also studies through nihongo no mori share with me how you go about these lessons? Do you study all the vocab from the textbook? how do you do it? I’ve been struggling to find time to create so many flashcards as there isn’t any context to them I have to research every single one of them, and then I have to find time to revise them and also study grammar, and kanji…

I’d be eternally grateful if you could share your experience with me,

Thank you!

  1. I’ve not used 日本語の森 but I would have thought the obvious way to study vocab would be through Anki. It can take a fair amount of time to create cards, but you can import cards from spreadsheets (.csv files) which makes things easier (it’s quicker to add everything to a spreadsheet and then import that).

The research you have to do for each one is normal. It’s how you actually learn the word. Anki (or any flashcard system) is not for learning, it’s just for keeping recall fresh in your memory.

  2. I study vocabulary using the apps Drops, Duolingo, Memrise, LingoDeer, and Infinite Japanese. I also use the website Japanesepod101.com.
