I’d really love advice on the overall structure of the trip, less so the day to day as these are just ideas that we’ll pick from as we spend our days in each place.

I’m a bit unsure of the last third of the trip and how Osaka fits in with everything. We really want to make it to Yufuin and I’d personally love to fit in Takachiho Gorge as a day trip from Yufuin but I’m not sure if this last section is realistic at all, it feels like it may be a lot of travel.

Thank you!

  1. >Kappo restaurant – dinner possible part two for fine sushi

Most finer sushi places get booked months out so if you don’t have reservations check them NOW.

Edit: Just checked and this place is reservation only and you need to call them to make the reservation. So have someone who can speak Japanese give them a ring.

  2. suggest you go to Kappo sushi before Yakitori. That way you don’t go into the sushi restaurant smelling like smoke and grill.

Additionally, is the Hello Kitty Shinkansen something you must take? Depending on your onsen reservation, you may need to consider the final time for check-in. Osaka to Fukuoka on the Hello Kitty train takes close to 4 hours, and then Fukuoka to Yufuin is about 2.5 hours.

If the Hello kitty train is a must, make sure to also get a reserved seat, as Car 2 (where the hello kitty decorations are located) is a unreserved car, meaning if you don’t get a seat, you’ll be standing until someone gets of.
