Does にする in the sense of “turn into” also work for emotions?

Okay, sorry if this sounds like a stupid question but I vaguely remember a Cure Dolly video I’ve seen a long time ago where she said that にする can be used to say “turn into”. I think the example she gave was 魔女がさくらをカエルにした。”The witch turned Sakura into a frog.”

And I was just randomly wondering if this にする would also work for things like emotional states.
Example: would saying トムがゆきを悲しくにしました。to say ”Tom made Yuki sad” make sense?
Like in the sense of “Tom turned the emotional state of Yuki to “being sad”.
Or 彼女が彼氏を嬉しくにしたいです。to say “The girlfriend wants to make her boyfriend happy”? Like her boyfriend is sad and she wants his emotional state to turn happy.

  1. に would connect to nouns and な adjectives.

く would be used for い adjectives.

    暖房が部屋を熱くした。The heater warmed the room.

  2. regarding your example, I think 悲しませた would be the right way to say it.

    (or maybe 悲しくさせた)

just some extra fun fact, but にする can also mean to choose something like に決めた e. g.
    どの鉛筆を使いたいの?
    これにする!
