I’m thinking of getting a tattoo with this kanji but I don’t know how it sounds to a Japanese person, I know the meaning I just don’t know if it looks stupid in a tattoo.
Make it a part of a phrase or piece of art so it doesn’t look so odd
I think tattoos of Asian writing are generally cheesy. But that’s just my personal opinion.
I would make it an entire word just in case. A kanji in the end is just a component. Imagine seeing someone with “Hidro– / “Water” tattoed.
It would look a bit odd on its own admittedly,
For example when referring to the place “heaven” you’d usually see “天国” 天 being used as a modifier (so to speak) for 国 which translates to “country” or “kingdom”
Think of 天 like a prefix of sorts, but definitely wait for a native speaker to weigh in because they’d have more contextual basis for this 😅
What would you think if you saw a Japanese dude walking around with “sky” tattooed on his arm?
I’d suggest 天竜人 or 天元突破
Everytime I saw someone with 「天 」tattooed, it reminded me of this:

I think it clearly works as ‘heaven’ and is fairly common. It’s not the most beautiful/elegant kanji though.
If you have to ask it’s not a good idea
Eh. Some kanji are suitable words. And some aren’t 天 really isn’t a solo word. If you really want, maybe use 空 but i don’t know
