My 23-year old son finally got his driving licence and his grandfather gave him his old car. That’s nice, but as new driver his voluntary driving insurance will be almost Â¥15万 per year. If my son remains the owner of the car, can I take out insurance in my name and include him as a family member? That’ll cut the cost to a more manageable Â¥10万.

Depends on the provider, but usually yes. Ours is set up in that way (I own the cars, wife has the insurance and I’m included as a driver), although for different reasons. We get her gold license rate.
