Hi everyone,
I’m going to Kanazawa tomorrow (Tuesday 7th) and will return to Tokyo on Friday (10th).
I want to spend Tuesday and Wednesday in Kanazawa and would ideally use the 9th-10th to do some kind of day trip around the area, possibly with a one-night stay.
I’ve been to Takayama and Shirakawa-go before. Noto peninsula looks amazing but I won’t be renting a car. I can see that trains go as far as Nanao and Wakura onsen, and a local train goes to Anamizu, but I’m not sure if there’s much to do there. There’s also Toyama on the way back to Tokyo but again not sure if there would be a great deal to see.
I’d be grateful for any suggestions of other places to go near Kanazawa, thanks!

I love Takaoka. It’s one stop on the Shinkansen from Kanazawa and people bare know it exists (or just take the local train, but that isn’t included in JR Pass). It’s just 2-3 hour to visit everything though. You could also visit the Himi area from there, where, if the weather is good, has a great view of Japan Apls.
Have you been to Fukui? Tojinbo and Eiheiji is pretty good.
We did a driving trip to Noto Peninsula and loved it. Without a car though it’s limited what you can see. You may want to search for a day trip bus tour of Noto. I’m sure these exist departing from Kanazawa. For Noto though, the best option is to rent a car for a day from Kanazawa to explore.
Or, you could also train to Toyama and check out the awesome glass museum. I haven’t been, but [Kaga Onsen](https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e4275.html) might be an option too.
