What happens with existing visa if change of visa fails?

I just extended my visa and got another 1-year for the 8th time. I expect I’ll get 1-year extensions again and again, never qualifying for PR. I’m tempted to switch to a Highly Skilled Professional visa, which I qualify for, and apply for PR using that in 2 years time (I’d have 10 years total and a 5-year visa at that point).

However, I’d like to know what happens if my change of visa application from Business Manager to HSP fails. Will my current visa be unaffected?

  1. You can apply directly to PR using HSP points directly, without having an HSP residence status. You just have to show you had enough points for the length of time required for you. In fact if you can show you had enough points 2 years ago, you can apply for PR now. (I’m assuming you have enough points to qualify after 2 years but not enough to qualify after 1 year).

  2. You have to apply for extension of current status as usual until you get approved for change. But you can ask and confirm that when you try to apply for change. I know for PR it works that way.
