Which grammar guide helped you the most

Just for reference since I’m lost in the large amount of grammar guides that exist out there.

I’m well aware that is not the same for everyone, but I would really like to hear from the experience of people who have gone through this.

  1. probably in order

    1. genki <— every sentence has some grammar from this

    2. tobira <— I never finished this textbook but the grammar which I did learn from it is useful

    3. google-sensei <— the true master

grammar is no cakewalk but I find vocab is the biggest problem anyway…

  2. Tae kim’s guide is very easy to start with and lets you jump into real japanese very quickly, which is great if you hate textbook reading.
But I would use Imabi if you have more patience, as I think he’s more thorough and you will have less initial misunderstandings.
