I want to go hiking in or around Osaka

Is there anywhere that is known to have 0 bears, and low risk of ticks?

I’ve done some searching around but I can’t be completely sure, wondering if anyone who is an avid hiker might give me some good information on that.

Any suggestions for good hiking areas in Kansai/Osaka are appreciated too!

Thank you

  1. You may also want to try asking in /r/Osaka.

  2. Not Kansai/Osaka, but I haven’t seen any bears here in Okinawa, but there’s also hardly any quality hiking trails unless you want to walk through the city or dense spider filled jumgle

  3. Yamanobe no Michi in Nara is a good option no bears, beautiful scenery, easy access by train from Osaka ..

  4. You can literally google “kansai hiking” and find lots of routes. I’ve done Harima Alps, Suma, Rokko/Rock Garden/Arima Onsen, and Takedao, and have never seen a bear nor gotten a tick. You probably won’t on the more popular hikes nearer to civilization. Many people do however wear bells to warn off bears and wild boars.

  5. I don’t know about ticks, but bears are quite rare in Kansai

I like 大阪府民の森, 額田園地 and なるかわ園地 in particular since they’re easily accessible by train and only 40 mins from me, but 星田園地 has a pretty nice suspension bridge

The worst wildlife I’ve ever seen in any 大阪府民の森 location is murder hornets

  6. It’s the giant hornets you’ll want to watch out for, especially as summer wears on and they get more and more pissed off and aggressive.

  7. Mt. Ponpon near Takatsukishi is great! No bears, always some people on the trails. Never came across any ticks either. It’s quite an easy hike.
