My friends name is spelled like this, I read it as Shiyun, before i knew hiragana, then I’m like oh wait, maybe its shun? BUT then i see its actually pronounced like Jun???
I’ve never heard him pronounce his name before so I’m just a bit stupid and lost, I’m sorry if this doesn’t belong, I was just wondering if the しゆ changes sounds from shiyu, to jiyu,
Thank you in advance

Are you 100% sure it’s しゆん and not じゅん? The two look very similar, but しゆん is, as you said, shiyun, and じゅん is jyun (or jun, as you say)
The “ju” sound is spelled じゅ.
It has a [dakuten](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dakuten_and_handakuten) mark which changes the “shi” to “ji”, and then a small ゅ (compare to normal sized: ゅ, ゆ) which changes it to “ju”.
might be a reference to the former kana use 歴史仮名遣い where small character where written like full character and the ゛ weren’t written either. so for exemple 200 years ago じゅん would all the time be written しゆん
Shun and Jun are both popular names/elements of names.
しゅん Shun
じゅん Jun
しゆん Shiyun
じゆん Jiyun
I’m guessing his name is Shun or Jun, they are both very common names. The last two are not names as far as I know. I can’t even think of any Kanji that could be read as “yun”.
