So, I’m actually aiming for a master’s degree but I’m planning to start as a research student.
The entry period that suits the embassy recommendation procedures is April 2023 (in most universities) since they start their application period on September, when we already are allowed to ask for letters of acceptance.
My doubt is the next:
What are we supposed to do when we arrive to Japan on April 2023? The MEXT information says that the first six months of the scholarship are just for studying Japanese, and after that we start as research students enrolled in the university. But if we do that, aren’t we really starting on October 2023?
I’ve seen comments here on Reddit of people saying that the first six months they attended lectures while studying the japanese course. So they started already attending the university on the first month they arrived.
Please help me out guys, I need these details so I can’t write a good research proposal.

For graduate school scholarship, you will likely be entering a laboratory immediately. The Japanese course is provided by the university, but depend on your advisor, they might have you start research activities early.
