1. An unemployed man accused of violating the Child Welfare Law for repeatedly having sexual intercourse with a female pupil as a tutor was sentenced at the Kyoto District Court on 10 January. Judge Takeo Yasunaga sentenced him to three years in prison (with a six-year sentence) for “taking advantage of his position as a tutor”.
   According to the judgment, he had sexual intercourse with the female student, then 13, a total of 12 times over a period of two and a half years from October 2018, when he was her tutor. In addition, between May 2008 and March 2009, he filmed the sexual intercourse with a smartphone and saved it on his tablet device.
