I’m a sucker for a sale. I’ve got into elbow tussles with older ladies when the 50% off sticker comes out. So I’ll be a well rounded elderly lady someday.
But apart from near closing half off deals in the supermarket I’m wondering what the best deal or discount you have found?

Best deals have been point schemes/those Go To Eat or whatever coupons. Also Mercari, once in a *very* blue moon. Have gotten some nice things for a steal off Zozotown of all places, like 70% coupled with extra 10% off private sale *and* a coupon, the stars aligning making the item like 95% off.
As for in a physical shop, I once had to make a DIY octopus costume. I needed 4 pairs of red tights for the legs. Local women’s sock shop had the typical 3 pairs for ¥1000 deal. I asked the checkout girl how much it would be to get 4 pairs in one transaction (thinking I should maybe get 3 pairs in one transaction and ask for 1 pair in a separate transaction), she paused, glanced around as if to make sure no one was watching, and just said “omake ni shimasu” so I got a pair for free teehee it made my night.
Me and my wife were in Sanki and came across official Tokyo 2020 T-Shirts for 200yen. We were the only ones interested as we rummaged through the pile looking for big sizes for me and decent colours. Within a minute or 2 a crowd of old ladies had formed and we gradually got elbowed back away from the merchandise. We watched on as a huge feeding frenzy, 3 or 4 deep, of obasans and a few men formed in front of us, elbows out, T-shirts flying. We’d asked politely if we could open a shirt and try it on. These ladies were just ripping anything open they could get their hands on and flinging it away if it was the wrong size. We left them to it and walked around the store where we found another untouched pile of the same T-shirts. When we got back to the original display the crowd had left and there were the less popular coloured and sized T-shirts and packaging strewn everywhere. Absolutely crazy but a good bargain.
Just thought of another. Stayed at a lovely ’boutique’ onsen hotel in Oita midweek last year for 5000 yen with my wife and received 2000 yen’s worth of vouchers each which we could use at 7-11. Effectively 1000 yen for the hotel seemed crazy.
Health care. Every trip to the clinic / hospital, while not always pleasant, has been an absolute steal in terms of price.
¥2500 each discount on an onsen stay for me and family members via my health insurance from a job I left a year ago.
Combined GoToTravel and JR saikoro ticket for a 2 night 3day trip from Osaka to Izumo and Yonago. Total cost was under ¥20k, including food and got ¥4k in coupons back that were perfect for buying souvenirs
