itinerary check – 18 days march-april

Hi everyone! we are soon flying for our second visit in Japan, after a fun but short first one in 2017. last time we did : tokyo-kyoto (with nara and osaka daytrips)-hakone-tokyo. this time we tried to fit in things we didn’t get to do the first time (time\\money wise) and would love to hear comments and suggestions! as luck would have it it’s supposed to be peak sakura bloom both in tokyo and in osaka when we get there so anything to do with that? also, both of us are food and alcohol nerds.

thanks in advance!

march 23- landing in narita (afternoon), taking the keisei skyliner to our hotel near ueno. if we are not too tired after the flight – go to asakusa, hoppy street, nakamise-dori.

24 – tsukiji outer market, Tsukishima, maybe some old book browsing in Jinbucho.

25 – tokyo national museum, flower viewing in ueno park, maybe akiahbara. hop in real quick to ueno station and exchange our jrpass voucher and save seats on some of the trains.

26 – activate jrpass, go to nikko. stay at a ryokan. go to all the shrines!

27 – nikko – lake chuzenji , kegon falls. is it doable\\worth it to also do ryuzu falls after?

28 – check out of nikko, go to tokyo, get cool bento boxes 🙂 go to osaka. we know it’s a long ride but we rather pull it off in one day… has anyone done it ? we plan on getting around 17-18pm to our hotel in namba and then go explore around namba\\shinsabaishi.

29 – osaka – aquarium + surrounding area, at night we have food tour booked – Deep Osaka Food Tour.

30 – kobe daytrip + sake tasting tour + kobe beef restaurant.

31 – maybe a kyoto daytrip? we stayed in kyoto last time, but somehow missed fushimi inari. is it worth it doing just that? we wanted to go to yamazaki distillery on the way back but the tickets sold out so fast… at night – osaka teamlab botanical garden.

april 01 – free day in osaka, maybe tennoji and so. dinner at a michelin restaurant.

02 – check out of osaka, go to miyajima. staying at a ryokan on the island itself. we plan on seeing the sights, shrines, torii gate, ropeway and market, see the torii again at night and go chill at the onsen.

03 – out of miyajima. go to himeji, see the castle (heard the inside of it isn’t that exciting. is it worth it to just see the outside? if so, do you still need to get tickets? I understand lines can get really long), get bentos and go to kanazawa. arrive there pretty late so i guess go to sleep.

04 – kanazawa – kenroku-en, ninja temple, higashi-chaya, omicho market.

05 – daytrip to shirakawa-go. we plan to spending about 3-4 hours there. is that enough\\too much? also if anyone has a recommendation for a cool (can be posh\\fine dinning) restaurant that you can book online in kanazawa – would love to hear.

06 – back to tokyo, stay around shibuya. go to kichijoji, harmonica alley and inokashira park.

07 – daytrip to kamakura, komachi-dori, kotoku-in, hasedera.

08 – last full day in tokyo – harajuku, shinjuku (been last time), shimokitazawa (didn’t visit last time). anyother reccomendations?

09 – go to the huge don quijote in shibuya, fill our suitcase with ALL the food, and fly back.

🙂
