Best app for learn how to speak? (Not how to read)

Hi guys! This is my first post here since i found this amazing subreddit!

Im currently using Busu and Duolingo to study japanese but is a little bit boring since this apps focus too much on how to read and write hiragana.
Im more interested in learning how to speak and listen rather than writing.

I love asking my japanese friends new words and complex sentences. I also like tiktoks about japanese idiomatic phrases. But i feel the progress is to slow.

Any suggestions?

  1. Pimsleur for your first 1000 words and basic sentence structures. After that pretty much all resources expect you to also work on becoming literate.

  2. Even native Japanese people that are illiterate have a poorer grasp of Japanese than natives who are literate. So it’d be best if you also focus on reading. Even if listening can be more fun at times.

I don’t know of any exclusive audio recourse, but you could just start brute forcing immersion by watching Japanese tv/YouTube and maybe start improving that way. (I wouldn’t recommend it but there are people who claim it works)

  3. If you want to learn to speak then you have to speak. There aren’t so many apps for doing this. Please use language exchange apps Tandem and Hello Talk while you practice shadowing in your free time. But if you already have Japanese friends they are your best source of learning. Speak with them a lot and listen whatever you enjoy.
