Will interviewers be weary if you have a current job?

My interview is tomorrow.

I currently have an internship running from Jan to Dec. Do you think the interviewers will be weary of that. Like they might think “if we offer him the position he might not quit his current job”…

Like should I lie and say the internship runs till June (since expected departure is in July) to avoid this concern?

  1. Just tell them the truth, why would you lie? That would be worse lol. Intense overthinking.

  2. Just tell the truth. I think the fact that you applied for JET at all is indication enough that you’ll pick them over your internship.

  3. Lots of people apply to JET as a mid-career break. I’m one of them! Worked as a nurse for 12 years prior to jumping into JET.

Also, there is no consequence if you turn down the job offer. If you are shortlisted, they will want you to reconfirm whether you still want the job. If you select no, then there are no consequences. However, if you accept the job and all the paperwork starts in Japan to bring you over and THEN you back out, then you start facing penalties (like not being able to apply again for so long…I forget the exact rules since it’s been a while).

  4. Do they really need to know the end date? I personally just wouldn’t bring it up and kinda doubt they will ask.

  5. I mean they can’t expect all their interviewees to not have a job and just riding on the chance that they’ll get accepted. Im sure it’s totally normal and that they are just going off of the base that because you applied, you would quit if accepted

  6. No. Just like literally any other job interview, they would expect you to quit it only once you get the offer. You wouldn’t do that for a job interview at a domestic company so why would you for JET?

  7. No, this will not be an issue. They would rather assume that you are willing to quit that job early since you applied for JET.
