We will be in Tokyo during Golden week and want to go to Mt Fuji to see the Fuji Shibazakura Festival. I know this is not the best time to go, but it is what it is.
Can anyone advise if it would be better to go via a guided bus tour/highway bus or via trains? Is the convienece of a bus tour worth being stuck in terrible traffic?
And if so, is there a particular day e.g. later part of Golden week to go ? We have the flexibility of any of the days of Golden week to go.

If just doing a day trip from Tokyo, the best train option is the [direct train from Shinjuku.](https://www.jrailpass.com/blog/fuji-excursion-train/amp) The downside is you need seat reservations and during a holiday time like Golden Week these can book up. You can use the [Eki Net site](https://www.eki-net.com/en/jreast-train-reservation/Top/Index) (Kanto Area) to purchase this ticket up to 30 days in advance of travel. Once you arrive at Kawaguchiko Station there’s a shuttle bus to the Shibazakura. But… all this being said it’s not bad to just use the Shibazakura bus direct from Tokyo. Then you just get on the bus, sit back and relax, and don’t need to worry about timetables. I’d do the bus tour for ease of travel.
