When is よう used as an adverb instead of ように?

This only seems to happen when よう/ように is used to mean “so that X happens”.

Example:

ここから落ちてしまわないよう、気を付けてください。

So anyway, when is に omitted and what are the differences in nuance?

    With my limited knowledge this feels like just the よ particle elongated with a う

    I could be completely wrong as I am not that good yet.
