Looking for Scenic Places in Yokohama

Hello! I’m living in Yokohama now and I’ve been on the hunt for scenic places, especially where I can relax and maybe read or write. Bonus points if it has a view of the ocean.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I’ve already been to Yamashita park a few times but I’m looking for more spots. Thanks!

  1. You may also want to try asking in /r/Tokyo.

  2. Head to kamakura, about a 20mon train ride from Yokohama station. It has nice beaches, lots of ocean views and some hills.

  3. * The area around the Yokohama Foreign Cemetery is on a hill with a nice view of the bay.
    * There are numerous parks with forests around the Nakamachidai-Center Minami area all connected by walkways.

  4. Honmokusancho Park has some decent views. Used to go bowling up at Negishi, then walk to the park with the wife. Night views of the bay were great, but it is windy.

  5. have you tried “Minato no mieru oka koen”, or “the harbor view park”? It is located on around Motomachi-chukagai stn, 20min-walk from there.
But I would rather recommend a cafe in Yokohama bay quarter, because you can relax and enjoy seeing ocean while drinking, and it is just 5minutes from Yokohama stn.

  6. I really recommend Sankei-en (三溪園), a large traditional Japanese garden. It’s not the easiest of places to get to, but it is beautiful and definitely worth it for a half-day or day trip. https://www.sankeien.or.jp

  7. I’ve been and currently live in Yokohama since beginning of 2022. I also enjoy nice peaceful hangout spots but the only good ones here would be Kamakura and Minato Mirai.

Kamakura has a nice long beach that I’m sure you can find a nice spot to sit and read. You can also visit the many temples there when you want to take a break. There’s also an awesome genuine German restaurant by the beach that’s worth visiting!

No need to go into details about Minato Mirai, I’m sure.

  8. Enoshima. When you visit Enoshima, don’t stop at the highest floor with the Sea Candle and eating Tako-senbei, there is another stairway that will lead you to the back of the island. There are cafes and restaurants with beautiful ocean view on the island.

  9. 港の見える丘公園 is pretty good, that was my go to place to take a date back in the day.
