I’m scheduled to go to Japan in just a few days. I have all other documents, visa, ERFS, getting PCR tomorrow, but I’ve somehow managed to misplace my CoE. I can’t find it anywhere. I can only imagine I’ve somehow managed to throw it away and I’m absolutely freaking out. Do I need the CoE when entering Japan, or only when I apply for the visa? I think the staff at the embassy told me I do need it but I cannot seem to find it listed among documents needed for entry when I look it up now (granted I’m stressed tf out and not in the best state of mind to search for information). I saw a post by someone else saying they got away with not showing it at immigration. Please tell me I don’t need it.
EDIT I found a scan of the CoE, maybe better than nothing??

Do you have a scanned copy of the CoE, OP? I would think anything is better than nothing at this point.
I was advised by my local Japanese embassy (UK) that you needed both a valid CoE and a valid visa to enter the country at the moment. Obviously YMMV and this might simply be the official position.
It’s probably best to phone your local embassy/consulate for advice – perhaps on an anonymous basis at first, in case you decide to try your chances at the airport in Japan without a CoE.
Might be a silly question but have you checked inside your passport? When they issued my visa they folded and stapled my COE on one of the passport pages.
Sorry to say but you need the original COE to exchange it with residence card on the immigration counter
I suggest you contact your embassy regarding this , and not overthinking stuffs before contacting them
