Nearly everyone in my office is trying their best to use their paid holidays to avoid stacking over 40 days cause it’s gonna be replenished soon. I don’t have as much since I’ve just joined so a normal workday it is. Most of my tasks are done, my supervisor is taking a leave until the end of this week, time to laze around I guess.
Spending some downtime this morning working out where I might want to move to in the next couple of months… Obviously depends entirely on results of Job hunting, but just trying getting a feel for potential neighborhoods in the greater Tokyo area.
If I manage to get my top pick job, would be pretty handy as it’s around the Tokyo Tower area and it seems like there’s quite a few train options within 40-45 minutes (Oedo Line both ways, Mita Line, Yamanote, etc.) On the one hand it’s kind of daunting, but on the other hand pretty cool to have so many options.
Been enjoying digging through the dozens of old threads of where to live in Tokyo as well, always interesting to see what folks recommend/value. UR housing seems neat, but the pickings seem very slim given it’s peak moving season right now. Thankfully I won’t be moving much before July so it might be a bit better then, but I guess we’ll see.
Anyone use one of those Sensibo IR blasters? Was interested in slowly making my house smart.
Mister donut has one of those retractable tape barriers to show people where to queue. Seems good.
Problem is, they have the tape *going through the middle of the automatic doors*, so for the entire time they’re open, the door is trying to close on the barrier and opening again.
They could just… make a gap in the barrier for the door… then start it again outdoors…
I’ve got older family members coming to visit for a few days. I wanted to set them up with a spa day/treatment/massage.
Unfortunately, I am located in Central Tokyo.
Any recommendations that won’t obliterate my wallet?
What VPN is everyone using? I’ve never used one and have burned through everything on Netflix and Disney + so I want to watch anime with s English subs since Netflix is incredibly stingy with their English subs.
More fun after SMBC declined to renew my credit card for unknown reasons! Now I can’t use any card on Rakuten. All my foreign credit cards get declined. Yay!
Early morning drive to Kyoto. Burnables day so chuck the bag in the car to drop it off on the way.
20mins later on the express way I realise I forgot to do it. Brought my rubbish all the way from Aichi to Kyoto.

Been working as a Software Engineer here for almost 5 years at the same company and is now planning to change ship once I renew my visa. It will be my first time looking for a job here so but is GitHub necessary? Didn’t really need this at my work and have not used it before but is it advisable to have one when applying?
Planning ahead for my mom’s and grandma’s visit between august – September. They’re visiting at separate times within those two months and it’s summer and fucking hot. They will be staying in our spare bedroom (7帖) which only has a window for ventilation. It’s a huge window, and faces more towards east (in between north and east facing). Unfortunately, that room gets really hot during the summer and humid. We usually put on a dehumidifier and open the window for a bit in the AM to make it bearable. There’s no option for an AC unit to be installed.
Aside from the window, buying a fan and dehumidifier, is there anything we can do to make the room more comfortable for them during the hot months? They already expressed not wanting to go to a hotel and I told them to sleep in the living room (where the main AC unit is at) but again, no.
Any suggestions? Recommendations? Tips? I’m trying to prepare ahead of time before their visit so I can do trial and error during June and July 🙂 also I know and am aware it won’t be ice cold or even cold without an AC, but I wanna make it as comfortable as possible for them since they’re older (late 50s and late 70s).
My guilty pleasure is doomscrolling yahoo news comments. Some of them would fit right in this sub. This gem today cracked me up:
