I’m a U.S. citizen currently residing with my relatives who is about to work at the Marine Corps Base in Iwakuni as a civilian. I just got word back from the base that I’m going to start work on April 10th. My initial tourist VISA wasn’t set to expire until April 22nd. I wanted to visit Guam just for a couple of days before I start working, but I’m having trouble figuring out Japan’s immigration laws in relation to U.S. citizens who aren’t officially employed yet, but will definitely start working.
Is it possible to travel back to Guam for a couple of days and return and enter Japan with no problem with my VISA status? I have an offer letter, can that be enough? Can I purchase a one way ticket back to Japan as opposed to another roundtrip? I need help as time is a pressing factor.
Thank you!

If you’re currently on a tourist status of residence you’d need to leave Japan to apply for a visa anyway.
You can’t switch from tourist to employment based status of residence from inside Japan.
I suppose your plan is to submit your CoE and apply for the visa at the consulate in Hagatna?
