らなかった VS なかった

1. There’s no such thing as らなかった as a unit

   There are two types of verbs, ichidan and godan (and a handful of exceptions likeする)

   Ichidan verbs conjugate to negative by removing the る and adding ない. The なかった is just a further conjugation of ない to past tense

   たべる

   たべない

   たべなかった

   Godan verbs conjugate to negative by swapping the last character with the one on the same hiragana row that ends in A instead of U, e.g. す–>さ 、る–>ら and then adding ない、tho う–>わ is an exception

   かえる

   かえらない

   かえらなかった

   かす

   かさない

   かさなかった

   かう

   かわない

   かわなかった
