Hi all,
We’re planning a weekend trip to Kyoto and looking for fun non-temple/garden activities for a 6-year old. We’re aware of the railway museum, the zoo and the aquarium. A huge outdoor playground would be ideal, found 梅小路公園 on that topic… but if there’s some other nice outdoor activity in/around Kyoto, would love to know too.
Thank you!

TOEI’s [Eigamura](http://www.toei-eigamura.com/global/en/) might be fun for 6-year olds.
The Kyoto Botanical Garden has a great playground, but last time I was there is was closed due to COVID-19. It may still be closed, so I recommend calling or checking their website. It’s still a good spot regardless IMHO.
Kamo River runs right through the center of the city and is walking paths all the way. At Demachiyanagi there’s a point where two rivers come together, the water is shallow and there are stepping stones to cross on.
Demachiyanagi is also very close to the Imperial Palace ( Gosho). Some small playgrounds and lots of space- and kids.
Look for KODOMO MIRAIKAN closer to the downtown shopping arcade, KODOMO RAKUEN out at the end of the subway line.
The monkey park in Arashiyama can be fun, a bit of a long walk up though.
They might enjoy a side trip to Nara to see the deer.
*Monkey Park* Iwatayama – It’s a bit of a hike up the mountain in Arashiyama (about 20 mins uphill), but it’s pretty cheap and it’s a fenced off mountain with an entire troupe of Japanese Macaques – you can watch them play and feed them in the little feeding station (bring change to buy fruit and nuts from the staff). Hell, I showed a video of me and my husband feeding the monkeys (from our 2016 trip) to my 2 year old and she now wants to go and try.
